New Zealand World Peace Bell

Christchurch was gifted Aotearoa/New Zealand’s only World Peace Bell by the World Peace Bell Association in Tokyo in 2006 and is one of only 21 worldwide. Due to Christchurch’s long-standing commitment to peace, the city was chosen to receive a World Peace Bell. It is now housed in a pavilion located in the Botanic Gardens and serves as a focal point for the City Council, local groups, and visitors to hold ceremonies and gatherings which may be of cultural, commemorative and/or religious importance.
